METHOD FOR SLITTING WEB, AND SLITTING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slitting apparatus which can very accurately slit a web so as to be divided in the direction of its width by eliminating the unbalance of the tension in the direction of the width of the web in slitting the web, and can exactly manufacture a magnetic tape having excellent accuracy of the width of the magnetic tape. SOLUTION: A first tension adjusting mechanism 12 is provided on a carrying route of the web W. The web W is slit at a cutter portion 11 into a group of product portions T and non-product portions C at both ends of the web in the width direction of the web. Carrying routes R2 of the non-product portions C after passing the cutter portion 11 are provided separately from carrying routes R1 of the product portions T. Further, a second tension adjusting mechanism 26 for adjusting the tension of the non-product portion C is provided on the carrying route R2 of the non-product portion C. Thus, the web W is slit while adjusting the tension of the product portions T and the non-product portions C after passing the cutter portion 11 by means of dedicated tension adjusting mechanisms 12, 26 respectively.
