Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a hazardous material detection apparatus of the conventional technology having the disadvantage of being insufficient in detection sensitivity such that, if the vapor pressure of hazardous material is too low or if there is only a trace amount of hazardous material, it cannot detect the material unless an enrichment process is provided. SOLUTION: A hazardous material, typically a nitro compound, is efficiently ionized using a negative corona discharge and the negative ions created are detected with high sensitivity using a mass spectrometer. In this way the vapor of the hazardous material is detected with high sensitivity whereby a determination can be rapidly made as to whether or not the hazardous material is present.
