Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oxidizing ethyl toluene in a liquid phase to produce methyl acetophenone, by which benzoic acid compounds causing the side reactions of the methyl acetophenone on distillation can efficiently be separated from the oxidation reaction to efficiently produce the methyl acetophenone. SOLUTION: This method for producing the methyl acetophenone is characterized by adding an alkali aqueous solution to a reaction solution obtained by oxidizing the ethyltoluene with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in a liquid phase to separate the produced benzoic acid compounds into the aqueous phase, and then distillation-purifying the methyl acetophenone.
