CERAMIC SINTERED COMPACT, CERAMIC TOOL, CUTTING INSERT AND CUTTING TOOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic sintered compact, a ceramic tool, a cutting insert and a cutting tool having high toughness and particularly excellent wear resistance. SOLUTION: The cutting insert 1 is constituted of the ceramic sintered compact consisting essentially of alumina and is a square plate like chip (for example, ISO SNGN120408) in view from the plate thickness direction (a cutting face side). The ceramic sintered compact constituting the cutting insert 1 is an alumina sintered compact formed by uniformly dispersing 15-40 vol.% silicon carbide particle and silicon carbide whisker in a matrix consisting essentially of alumina and the ratio of silicon carbide whisker occupied in the silicon carbide in the alumina sintered compact is 15-50 vol.% and the average particle diameter of the silicon carbide particle is 3-5 μm.
