GUIDE WIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire which comprises a combination of a main guide wire which is inserted in a body cavity and an extension wire which is engaged with the main guide wire, which has a simple structure, and which can easily and surely perform the engagement and the disengagement of the extension wire. SOLUTION: This guide wire comprises the combination of the main guide wire which is inserted in the body cavity, and the extension wire which is joined to the main guide wire. In the guide wire, for one joint end, the cross section which is cut by a plane being vertical to the wire central axis is circular, and the other joint end is cylindrical. Also, for at least a part of the cylindrical joint end, the cross section which is cut by a plane being vertical to the wire central axis is non-circular, and the extension is performed by fitting one joint end into the other cylindrical joint end.
