Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a degreasing agent having an adequate degreasing capability and a chemical conversion treatability and free from phosphate, and to provide a degreasing method using it. SOLUTION: The degreasing agent consists of two or more alkali builders and a nonionic surface active agent, has a pH of 10.5 to 12.0 and is substantially free from a phosphorus compound and a nitrogen compound, wherein the two or more alkali builders include at least one alkali silicate, and the nonionic surface active agent is a compound expressed by the general formula: RO-(C2H4O)n-H (wherein R represents an alkyl group with the number of carbon atoms of 10 to 12; and n is an integer of 7 to 9).
