Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit and method for controlling molten metal surface level in a mold for continuous caster so as not to develop the variation of the molten metal surface level, even in the case of containing the variation independent of non-stationary bulging in a drawing resistant variation. SOLUTION: Quantity of molten steel poured into the mold 4 is decided with the opening degree of a sliding nozzle 6 and the adjustment of the opening degree of this sliding nozzle, is performed by driving an actuator 15, such as hydraulic pressure cylinder, through a sliding nozzle control unit 12. The sliding nozzle opening-degree control is realized by adding the output of a PI controller 11 worked so that the molten steel surface level becomes constant and the output from the signal treating unit 13 based on the signal obtained from the molten steel surface level detector for detecting the molten steel surface level in the mold and a deviation signal to the molten steel surface level setting value, and inputting into the sliding nozzle control unit 12 and changing the sliding nozzle opening degree setting value.
