PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of enhancing the accuracy of a detection means itself being used at the time of correcting the density characteristics of a plurality of recording elements in a recording head, more specifically, a recorder capable of measuring the optical magnification of the detection means (sensor) with high precision. SOLUTION: The recorder comprising a recording head for recording on a recording medium, and an optical sensor capable of optically reading a pattern recorded on the recording medium is further provided with a means for recording a predetermined pattern on the recording medium, and a means for reading the predetermined pattern recorded on the recording medium through the optical sensor wherein the width in at least one direction of the outline at a part in the specified pattern being read out through the optical sensor is set within the width of reading range of the optical sensor in that direction.
