Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam generator which generates steam immediately after providing water, can promptly provide steam to a cooker when required, and moreover facilitates also the control of a steam supply amount, steam supply suspension, etc. SOLUTION: This steam generator has a columnar heating element 26 which radiates heat from the surface, screens 21 and 23 having a mass of pores put on the peripheral surface of this heating element 26, and a spacer 24 which separates at least part of screens 23 from the peripheral surface of the heating element 26 to hold, water dropped on the upper end side of the heating element 26 is introduced between the peripheral surface of the heating element 26 and part of the screens 23, the outer peripheral side of the heating element 26 is provided with a plurality of stacked screens 21 and 23, a spacing is given between the screens 21 and 23 by the spacer 24 inserted among them, to form a gap for evaporating the water.
