Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting compactin into pravastatin. SOLUTION: This method for converting the compactin into the pravastatin comprises bringing the compactin into contact with a factor (an independent hydroxylase different from cytochrome P450 system) originated from Actinomadura under conditions for converting the compactin into the pravastatin. In addition, one strain of Actinomadura, the cell-free extract of Actinomadura, and a method for lowering the levels of Actinomadura hydroxylase and mammal cholesterol are provided.
