Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with high energy density and long charge/discharge cycle life. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is equipped with a positive electrode 3, a negative electrode 4 capable of absorbing/releasing lithium ions, and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing γ-butyrolactone (GBL), the surface area per 1 g of the negative electrode measured by a nitrogen gas adsorbing BET method is 1.5-2.8 m2, and the retaining amount of the nonaqueous electrolyte of the negative electrode is 100 mg or more per 1 m2of the surface area of the negative electrode.
