DEFRAGMENTATION METHOD AND STORAGE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute the transfer or exchange of storage information between user sectors without making it necessary for a magnetic disk device to transfer data with a host device after receiving a command from the host device when the host device transfers or exchanges storage information stored in the user sectors for defragmentation or the like, and of maintaining the matching of storage information to be recognized by the host device and storage information to be recognized by the magnetic disk device for the user sectors even when the operation is interrupted in the middle. SOLUTION: The user sector LBA(Y) of the destination of transfer is copied to a dummy sector LBA(D), and entry is written in a mapping table RDM, and the storage information of the user sector LBA(X) at the transfer origin is copied to the LBA(Y).
