Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cell death inhibitor consisting of rare sugar(s), and to provide a prophylactic drug, a therapeutic drug and a specific health food for diseases including a neurodegenerative disease like prion disease caused by cell death with the inhibitor as active ingredient. SOLUTION: The neurocyte death inhibitor utilizing the protective activity of rare sugar(s), preferably D-psicose and/or D-allose, in neurocyte is provided. The prophylactic and/or therapeutic drug contains the inhibitor as active ingredient and is to be used for preventing and/or treating neurodegenerative diseases, neonatal nuclear jaundice, muscular dystrophy, cerebral ischemia or tardive neurocyte death thereafter, prion disease, and the advance of the symptoms of the dysfunction of cerebral nerve tissue or the same under transplantation, wherein the neurodegenerative diseases include Alzheimer's disease, spinal muscular atrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Huntington disease, retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma and cerebellar degeneration. A preservative for cerebral nerve tissue and/or cerebral neurocyte with this inhibitor as active ingredient and a medium for culturing cerebral nerve tissue cell containing this inhibitor are also provided, respectively.
