Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for sensing pedestrians for discriminating pedestrians from white canes held by visually impaired persons at the time of sensing pedestrians for realizing supports corresponding to various situations. SOLUTION: This detecting device 20 for supporting crossing is configured to irradiate the neighborhood of the crossing port of a crosswalk on a road surface with a plurality of light beams lined up along the crossing port from the upper part, and to receive the reflected lights for each of those light beams, and to output detection signals corresponding to the light reception quantity for each of the light beams. The diameters and intervals of the light beams are set so that the minimum number of light beams to be occupied by pedestrians crossing the irradiation area can be 2 or more. This detecting device 20 is configured to check the light reception level of each light beam, the continuous number of the light beams from which the light reception quantity which is a threshold or more is acquired adjacently exist and one or more decision elements in the moving status of places where the light beams from which the light quantity which is the threshold or more is acquired exist from the detection signal of each of the light beams, and to discriminate the reflection materials of white canes held by visually impaired persons from pedestrians from the result of sensing pedestrians.
