METHOD FOR PRODUCING AQUEOUS ACRYLIC ACID POLYMER SOLUTION AND AQUEOUS ACRYLIC ACID POLYMER SOLUTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous acrylic acid polymer solution with a decreased residual monomer content which can be used for a thermosensitive water gel, a cosmetic additive, a support for sustained-release medicine, and an additive for skin patches, and to provide a method for producing the aqueous solution. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aqueous acrylic acid polymer solution comprises polymerizing an acrylic monomer or a monomer mixture mainly composed thereof in an aqueous medium using a radical polymerization initiator, then optionally performing an additional catalytic treatment using a radical polymerization initiator, and removing a water soluble organic solvent when the aqueous medium contains the water soluble organic solvent. The aqueous polymer solution produced by the method has a viscosity and a nonvolatile content satisfying formula 1: 5≤[N]≤25 and formula 2: [N]/log[V]≤5 and contains a residual acrylic acid monomer of 7,000 ppm or less based on the nonvolatile matter.
