Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that allows simultaneous control of a macroscopic azimuthal and zenithal liquid crystal (LC) alignment (Φ, θ) across a liquid crystal layer. SOLUTION: In the illustrated example, substantially homeotropic alignment (z direction) tends to be induced in an alignment region (T1) of a 1st type and substantially planar alignment (x direction and y direction) with different orientations tends to be induced in alignment regions (T2, T3) of 2nd and 3rd types. Control of macroscopic zenithal liquid crystal alignment (θ) is achieved by controlling the area ratio of homeotropic (T1) and planar (T2, T3) region types, and control of macroscopic azimuthal (Φ) liquid crystal alignment is achieved by controlling the area ratio of two planar region types (T2, T3).
