Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber precursor causing little fluffing trouble in the production of the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: The precursor fiber for the carbon fiber satisfies the following conditions. (1) The ratio (P2/P1) of the peak value (P1) of tanδ derived from glass transition temperature and developed at 100°C or thereabout to the peak value (P2) of tanδ derived from infusibilizing reaction and developed at 170°C or thereabout determined by the measurement of dynamic viscoelasticity is ≥5, (2) the crystal size determined by wide angle X-ray measurement is ≥120 and (3) the crystal orientation determined by wide angle X-ray measurement is ≥90%.
