Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine which performs an appropriate control in the event that a failure occurs in communication between a variable-valve controller and a throttle controller. SOLUTION: The control device for an internal combustion engine is provided with an intelligent driver 5 for controlling a valve-lift of an intake valve 4 and an engine ECU 6 for controlling a throttle-opening angle. Under normal conditions, the engine ECU 6 controls the throttle-opening angle in accordance with an actual valve-lift transmitted from the intelligent driver 5. In the event that a failure occurs in the communication between the intelligent driver 5 and the engine ECU 6, the throttle-opening angle is controlled on the basis of a preceding valve-lift stored in the engine ECU 6. Thus, even though transmission of the valve lift is failed from the variable-valve controller in the event of a communication-failure, control for an appropriate throttle-opening angle can be performed.
