Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of minimizing height of an automatic document feeder where a second reading means is arranged on the inside of a conveying passage. SOLUTION: The ADF 1 comprises a document tray 2 and a paper delivering tray 4 arranged in two vertical stages, a conveying passage 3 shaped in a laterally U shape from the document tray 2 to the paper delivering tray 4, a paper feed roller 5 and a separation pad 6 which are arranged near a paper feeding port of the conveying passage 3 and sandwich the document in the thickness direction and separate it, a conveying roller 7 for nipping and conveying the document, a CCD reading unit 12 for reading the first surface of the document just on the downstream of the folded section of the conveying passage 3, a CIS reading unit 8 for reading the second surface of the document on the downstream, and a paper delivering roller 9 for nipping and discharging the document after reading. The CIS reading unit 8 is disposed downward between the separation pad 6 and a conveying roller 7a arranged just on the downstream of the separation pad 6 in the longitudinally sectional view and between the CCD reading unit 12 and the paper delivering roller 9.
