Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package type semiconductor light emitting device which can make thin the structure of a backlight means for liquid crystal display screen. SOLUTION: In the package type semiconductor light emitting device, a metal reflecting plate having an arcuate reflecting surface is joined on a printed circuit board, a light emitting element mounted on the board is packaged with a synthetic resin containing a material having a light conversion function, and the upper surface of the package is covered with a cover member made of resin having a reflecting function material incorporated therein. The light emitting device converts light emitted from the light emission surface of the light emitting element, and emits light reflected by the arcuate reflecting surface of the metal reflecting plate and the cover member from a light emission surface normal to the light emission surface of the light emitting element.
