Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnet which can miniaturize an optical isolator in which a Faraday rotator is tilted with respect to the optical axis, and which permits the manufacture at low-cost; and to provide the optical isolator using the magnet. SOLUTION: The optical isolator is composed of the Faraday rotator consisting of a Faraday rotation film and a polarization film and having a rectangular incident/emission surface, and the magnet having a hole penetrating through with respect to the axial direction and for accommodating the Faraday rotator obliquely with respect to the optical axis. In the constitution, the hole having the inner diameter smaller than the length of the diagonal line of the horizontal section of the accommodated Faraday rotator penetrates through the magnet. A clearance groove in the axial direction is formed on the inner wall of the hole of the magnet at the part intersecting the diagonal line of the horizontal section of the Faraday rotator, with respect to the radial direction from the center of the hole.
