PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an α-substituted phenylacetic acid derivative that has a wide spectrum by a low-concentration chemical fluid treatment and is useful as an insecticide and a mitcide. SOLUTION: The α-substituted phenylacetic acid derivative is represented by general formula (I) (R1and R2are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxyalkyl group, an alkylthio group, an alkylthioalkyl group, a cycloalkyl group or a heterocyclic group; R3is an alkyl group; R4is an alkyl group or the like; R5is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; A is a C(O)-YR6(Y is an oxygen atom or a nitrogen atom; R6is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like); X is a halogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, an alkyl group, a haloalkyl group, an alkoxy group, a phenyl group, a phenoxy group, a heteroaryl group or the like; n is an integer of 0-5).
