Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which can more easily be manufactured than heretofore, has both high pixel transmissivity and wide viewing angle display characteristics, and is suitably used for a liquid crystal television. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element having a couple of substrates one of which is transparent, a liquid crystal layer arranged between those couple of substrates, and a liquid crystal alignment restriction layer which is arranged between the liquid crystal layer and one of the couple of substrates and where a plurality of closed areas 40 having a liquid crystal alignment restriction direction different from circumferential liquid crystal alignment restriction directions are arranged is characterized in that shapes of the closed areas 40 have heads and tails made distinctive in circumferential liquid crystal alignment restriction directions.
