Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plain bearing provided with a surface layer which has good initial comformability and durability, does not contain Pb as a constitutional element and is beneficial for pollution control. SOLUTION: The plain bearing 1 is equipped with a metallic supporting plate 2 and metallic surface layers 5 which are formed by electroplating method on the supporting plate 2 and have sliding surfaces 4 with a mating member 3. The metallic surface layers 5 have first layer constitution sections 51which have a plurality of columnar crystals 6 grown from the metallic supporting plate 2 and second layer constitution sections 52which cover the first layer constitution sections 51and are composed of the aggregate of the columnar crystals 6.
