POLYMER ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE-ELECTRODE JUNCTION AND POLYMER ELECTROLYTE FUEL CELL USING THIS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane-electrode junction with excellent quality having holes not opening even if it is used for long time, and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell using the same. SOLUTION: The electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly is provided with a polymer electrolyte membrane 11, and a pair of electrodes arranged at both sides of the polymer electrolyte membrane 11 and having a catalyst layer. The volume of platinum of electrode reacting parts of the electrodes 13 per unit area in at least either a region in the vicinity 12 of a supply part of fuel gas or in the vicinity of a supply part of oxidant gas in the catalyst layer is less than that at other parts, and the volume of platinum per unit area at the other parts is substantially constant.
