Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL light emitting device reduced in thickness and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for the organic EL light emitting device of this invention is a method in which a pair of substrates made up of an element substrate 10 and a counter substrate 20 is provided. The element substrate 10 has an organic EL element, and the counter substrate 20 is opposed to the element substrate 10. The method comprises: a step S109 for forming the pair of substrates by bonding the element substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20 to each other with a seal material 23 for sealing interposed therebetween, the seal material 23 surrounding an organic EL light emitting region 11 formed by a plurality of organic EL elements; a step S110 for cleaning an etching surface; and a step S111 for making the pair of substrates thinner by etching.
