Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate access to a printhead for performing maintenance. SOLUTION: A method for performing maintenance of printheads (32A to 38A) includes a step of moving the printheads along a path from a printing position adjacent to a drum (20) rotatable about a rotary shaft (22) to a maintenance position away from the drum, wherein the path is orthogonal to the rotary shaft; a step of performing a maintenance operation on the printheads at the maintenance position; and a step of moving the printheads back to the printing position in order to reposition the printheads so as to be adjacent to the drum. The maintenance operation is carried out when a maintenance station (50) is moved from the stopped position to the maintenance position adjacent to the printheads. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
