Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material capable of preventing lowering of a porosity which occurs when non-whisker-like potassium titanate is formulated into a friction material and not causing worsening of fade characteristic and lowering of high speed effectiveness and a friction material imparting friction performance equivalent to a performance obtained when potassium titanate whisker and non-whisker-like potassium titanate are used and capable of suppressing abnormal sound and abnormal wear in high load braking. SOLUTION: The friction material is obtained by formulating plate-like, columnar or scaly non-whisker-like alkali metal titanate or non-whisker-like alkali metal-alkaline earth metal titanate having ≤ 3 aspect ratio with an inorganic porous filler or the friction material is obtained by formulating non-whisker-like lithium potassium titanate having 0.1-100 μm average particle diameter and ≤3 aspect ratio.
