MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium which makes excellent C/N characteristics and traveling stability compatible. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium which performs recording or reproducing of signals in a recording and reproducing system which has a magnetic layer of a film thickness ≤0.25 μm on one major face of a nonmagnetic support 1 and a back layer on a major face on the opposite side and in which linear recording density is set to ≥195 kfci, the ratio α=H(s)/H(b) of the film hardness H(s) of the magnetic layer 2 and the film hardness H(b) of the back layer 3 is regulated to 1.1≤α.
