METHOD OF DIAGNOSING FAILURE FOR TORQUE SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist system of an automatic transmission, capable of realizing expansion of layout flexibility by reducing the size of a select lever, and capable of obtaining the characteristics of the operating force for a select lever, responding to demands, while ensuring reliability by the mechanical coupling with the selecting lever and the switching system of a range position. SOLUTION: An electric motor 15 assist for driving the select lever 2 is provided; an elastic portion 219 is provided adjacent to the end of a P range in the ranges of the P range to an L range of the select lever 2; the select lever 2 is pressed against the elastic portion 219 by driving the electric motor 15, when the select lever 2 is in the P range; and the abnormality of a torque sensor 21 is examined by whether estimated torque is output by a torque sensor 21 by providing the select lever 2 reaction force.
