IMAGE READ APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read apparatus capable of reducing misjudgment of the size of an original. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: an original platen; an original cover; an image sensor which has a plurality of lines with a prescribed interval, each line provided with a plurality of pixels disposed in parallel in the main scanning direction, and applies photoelectric conversion to an incident light to provide the output of an electric signal of each line; a subscanning means which moves the image sensor in parallel in the subscanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction; a first light source which irradiates the original platen from its rear side; a first optical system which makes reflected light on the different main scanning lines of the original placed on the panel face of the original platen or the original cover incident onto different lines; and a first size discrimination means which generates, by each line, information to discriminate the size of the original in the main scanning direction on the basis of the electric signal outputted from the image sensor and discriminates the size of the original in the main scanning direction on the basis of the information generated by each line.
