SOLUTION: The melanogenesis promoter is composed of an extract of Lactuca indica L. or a lupeol fatty acid ester and/or its isomer or the melanogenesis promoter comprises the extract of Lactuca indica L. or the lupeol fatty acid ester and/or its isomer as an active ingredient. The melanogenesis-promoting composition comprises the melanogenesis promoter, the extract of Lactuca indica L. or the lupeol fatty acid ester and/or its isomer. The melanogenesis-promoting composition may also be a composition for prevention of the gray hair or a composition for melanization of the skin.
