Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an operator to be informed that printer is in operation only by watching a light-emitting unit by making the luminance of the light-emitting unit to be high during operation of a printer, and to reduce power consumption by making the luminance of the light-emitting unit low while the printer is in a waiting state. SOLUTION: The printer 20 checks whether print data is in a receive buffer memory 2 or not. An emitting-light controlling unit 6 is provided. The emitting-light controlling unit 6 controls a signal output to the light-emitting unit 7 to a high-level and a low level, when print data is in the receive buffer memory 2, and during a predetermined period immediately after the power is turned on, respectively. Accordingly, the luminance of the light-emitting unit 7 is high during operation of the printer, and the luminance of the light-emitting unit 7 is low during a predetermined period immediately after the power is turned on.
