Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute position encoder that can set a traveling speed or a rotary speed in power failure according to the configuration of each shaft, usage, and setup changing work in use by mounting to a machine apparatus having at least one operation shaft, and can detect up to high-speed rotation without consuming an unneeded current as an entire machine apparatus. SOLUTION: An allowable rotational speed determination section 13 in power failure generates a count clock frequency switching command 18 for specifying a count clock frequency corresponding to speed that may be moved or rotated in power failure by receiving an allowable rotational speed in power failure to be inputted from the outside via a reception circuit section 11, and a serial communication data input section 12. As a result, a count clock signal at a specific frequency is generated by a count clock frequency switching circuit 15, and a counting section 16 on power failure performs counting action in synchronization with the count clock signal, thus miniaturizing a battery and extending its life.
