Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a biaxially oriented polyester film substantially free from deposits of oligomers on the surface of the film and excellent in magnetic recording characteristics obtained when used as a substrate for magnetic recording media and optical characteristics obtained when used as an optical substrate and gas barrier property, and to provide a method for producing the film. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film is composed of a polyester containing a phosphorus compound of 125-500 ppm expressed in terms of phosphorus atomic weight and having ≥0.50 and ≤0.75 intrinsic viscosity and has ≤0.7 mg/m2amount of oligomers deposited on the surface.
