PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability for starting a camera system by operating a barrier means. SOLUTION: A camera comprises a barrier means capable of moving between a close position where the front of an optical member attached to a camera body is covered and an open position retreated from the front of the optical member and capable of moving from the open position in the retreating direction, a position detection means for detecting the position of the barrier means, a control means for setting the camera body to a photographing enabled mode at the time of discriminating that the barrier means exists on the open position on the basis of an output from the position detection means, and a starting means for starting the control means when the barrier means exists between the close position and the open position and when the barrier means exists on a position of the retreating direction from the open position.
