Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely diagnose deterioration of NOx trap catalyst. SOLUTION: Deterioration of catalyst is diagnosed based on change of air-fuel ratio (or HC amount) on a catalyst outlet side for change of air-fuel ratio (or HC amount) on a catalyst inlet side when performing rich spike operation as first deterioration diagnosis. When it is determined that catalyst is deteriorated by the first deterioration diagnosis, operation is shifted to theoretical air-fuel ratio operation to feedback-control air-fuel ratio on the catalyst outlet side in order to diagnose deterioration of catalyst finally based on inversion cycle of feedback amount at this time.
