SOLUTION: In a programmable display 10, a character pattern data readout section 21 retrieves the header portion of a storage section 23 based on a font name "Mincho" and acquires the top address of the Mincho font. The character pattern data readout section 21 reads out the character pattern data of the Mincho font stored in the portion of the storage section 23 indicated by its top address.
