Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device making full use of a characteristic that it is thin, of the organic EL device, and prolonging the life without decreasing the brightness of the organic EL device by enhancing the cooling effect of the organic EL device. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 11 is equipped with a liquid crystal panel 12 and an organic EL device 13 acting as a back light. The organic EL device 13 is equipped with a Peltier element 22 acting as a substrate, and an organic EL element 23 formed on the heat absorbing side of the Peltier element 22. One electrode of the organic EL element 23 is commonly used as a metallic layer 22b on the heat absorbing side of the Peltier element 22. An organic EL layer 24 and a second electrode 25 are laminated in this order on the metallic layer 22b constituting a first electrode of the organic EL element 23. The second electrode 25 is formed with a visible light transmitting ITO, and the emission take-out direction of the organic EL element 23 is set on the second electrode 25 side.
