Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent failure of holding a static image. SOLUTION: In the case charged particles 4 are attracted to a second electrode 6 as shown in the figure, a region with a first electrode 5 disposed thereon is visually recognized and, for example, a white display is produced. In this case, counter ions (ions with a polarity reverse to that of the charged particles 4) are attracted to the first electrode 5. Subsequently the counter ions are once attracted to a third electrode 7 by applying voltage to the third electrode 7 and then the counter ions are released. In this case, though an electric field is applied between the counter ions and the charged particles 4, the charged particles 4 do not move due to action of the third electrode and the static image is retained with respect to the electrophoresis display device as a whole.
