Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface flaw detection device for a shape steel for detecting surface flaws with high accuracy and reducing cost by paralleling a direction that detects the luminance of radiation light generated by the shape steel moving in a hot condition with its moving direction. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with an optical detector for measuring radiation light emitted from the surface of the shape steel moving in a hot condition, a data conversion part for converting two-dimensional luminance image data measured by the optical detector into two-dimensional temperature data, and a data processing part for detecting a flaw occurrence position of the shape steel based on the temperature data. The processing part generates a plurality of temperature distribution data plurally divided in a direction parallel to the moving direction of the shape steel and in the width direction of the shape steel to perform comparative operation between a prescribed data Xi column in the plurality of temperature distribution data and a prescribed threshold Thi, thereby detecting two-dimensional coordinates, where temperatures not higher than the prescribed threshold Thi are developed, as the flaw occurrence position of the shape steel.
