ENGINE CONTROL DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a engine control device in which the engine starting performance is improved when an intake and exhaust cam is not in the prescribed reference phase position at start of an engine. SOLUTION: The engine control device is equipped with a control means 100 for controlling the intake and exhaust cam shaft to increase overlap quantity in accordance with increase of engine load by controlling valve variable mechanisms 21, 22, while controlling the intake and exhaust valve to the prescribed reference phase position during idle so as to reduce an overlap quantity during a intake and exhaust valve opening period, a phase detecting means 103 for detecting a phase of the exhaust cam shaft, a fuel supply amount control means 100b for controlling the fuel supply amount, a phase abnormality detecting means 100a for detecting phase abnormalities during cranking, and a fuel supply amount correcting means 100c for increasing the fuel supply amount controlled by the fuel supply amount control means 100b when a phase abnormality is detected by the detecting means 100a.
