Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a uniform display grade free of the luminance unevenness due to the stress in a configuration obtained by laminating a phase difference compensation element and a polarizing plate or configuration laminated with a liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: The phase difference compensation element having a photoelastic coefficient of ≤10x10-13cm2/dyne is used. A liquid crystal layer contains a nematic liquid crystal material having negative anisotropy and when voltage is not applied thereto, the liquid crystal molecules of the nematic liquid crystal material align approximately perpendicularly to the surface of the respective substrates.
