Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly classify plastics containing a flame retardant out of at least a classifying object containing the plastics. SOLUTION: This classifier has a conveyer 2 for the classifying object 1, an irradiation ray generator 3 for emitting an X-ray or an electron beam 5 to the classifying object 1, a detector 4 for a generated characteristic X-ray 6, a data processing part 7 for analyzing the characteristic X-ray to determine a kind of the retardant in the plastic, to determine the presence of a specified flame retardant or to determine the presence of the flame retardant, and a classifying mechanism 8 for classifying the plastics properly, based on a signal from the data processing part 7. The characteristic X-ray is analyzed in the data processing part 7 to detect an element characteristic to the flame retardant, the kind of the flame retardant, the presence of a specified flame retardant or the presence of the flame retardant is determined therein, and a signal of a result thereof is supplied to the classifying mechanism 8 to conduct the classification.
