CARBOSTYRIL COMOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low molecular weight carbostyril compound practically useful as a dye precursor and having high reactivity and its analogue. SOLUTION: The carbostyril compound is represented by general formula (I) [wherein Z is -NR2-, -O-, -S-, -C(CH3)2- or -CH2C(CH3)2-; R2is a hydrogen atom or a 1-5C unsubstituted alkyl group; R1is a 1-5C unsubstituted alkyl group, a 1-5C fluorinated alkyl group or a 1-5C alkyl group in which a hydroxy group is substituted; X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, a thioalkyl group, a thioaryl group, a sulfonyl group or a sulfenyl group, with the proviso that when R1is a methyl group, X is a hydrogen atom or a chlorine atom and when R1is a trifluoromethyl group, X is not a chlorine atom].
