Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical porous silica particle modified with an organic functional group, having a spherical form of several tens to several hundreds micrometer diameter, containing regularly arranged pores having pore diameter of 0.5-5 nm and having highly hydrophobic pore surface having organic mercapto groups fixed to the inorganic skeleton in a uniformly dispersed state and to provide a method for easily synthesizing the spherical porous silica particles. SOLUTION: The spherical porous silica particle has an average particle diameter of 50-500μm and an X-ray diffraction peak at the diffraction angle (CuKα) of 1-5° and modified with an organic functional group of an organic silicon compound coordinated to the Si atom of a silicate skeleton.
