IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the faulty separation of recording paper from a transport belt and to prevent the faulty transfer of a toner image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: image forming parts 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d for forming an image on the recording paper 9; a transport belt 2 for transporting the paper 9; and a destaticizing member 5 arranged proximately to the belt 2. A control part 100 prevents the faulty separation of the paper 9 from the belt 2 by completely eliminating the electrostatic charge on the belt 2 by bringing the member 5 into contact with the belt 2 in an environment (low humidity environment) where the surface resistance of the belt 2 is large and electrification potential increases. On the other hand, the control part 100 prevents the faulty transfer of the toner image to the paper 9 by restraining transfer charge required for transferring the toner image from flowing to the outside through the member 5 by separating the member 5 from the belt 2 in an environment (high humidity environment) where the surface resistance of the belt 2 is small and the electrification potential decreases.
