Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold cathode light emitting element capable of uniformly lighting onto a fluorescent screen and an image display device using the same. SOLUTION: A CNT cathode 5 to be a cold cathode electron source is formed on the rear face panel 2 oppositely disposed to the front face panel 1. Electrons taken out from the CNT cathode 5 arrive at a phosphor 4 to emit light after passing through a gate mesh opening 7 of a gate electrode 6 and a second mesh opening 9 of a second electrode 8 and emits light. Electron transmission holes with hole diameters of 0.1-0.4 mm and bridges with widths of around 0.1 mm are formed to designate a mesh shape at the second mesh opening 9, and a voltage with 1/20-1/5 times that of a gate voltage is applied thereto.
