PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file management device enabling the effective use of a file managed in a centralized control server, a file management method, a file management program, and a computer-readable program storage medium recording the file management program. SOLUTION: This file management device 1 manages files edited by an editing terminal and centrally managed by the centralized control server. This device comprises monitoring means 53 and 55 for monitoring whether each file managed by the centralized control server is edited or not, an acquisition means 51 for acquiring, in the detection of an updating of file, the updated file, and a management means 49 for extracting text data from the acquired file and managing the file with the text data as a retrieval key.
