Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer which is useful as a gelling agent used for a sustained release agent and the like, wherein the polymer can be swelled by absorbing a solvent containing an organic solvent such as ethanol and maintains gel form, insoluble in a solvent, and possesses biodegradability to be discarded in an environment with a small care. SOLUTION: The polymer contains a pendant group having high affinity to an organic solvent such as ethanol in a solvent and containing the repeating unit of formula (1). The polymer also has a main chain having the structure of a biodegradable polyamino acid and a cross-linking structure to be insoluble in a solvent. In formula (1), X represents NH2, -NR, -OR, or -SR; R represents an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an aryl group; and n is either 1 or 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
